With gas price continuing to soar up consumers have no choice but to look for alternatives to travel.

Volkswagen is coming to the rescue with the most economical car in the world, known as the One-Liter.

The One-Litre will consume only one liter for every 100 km it travels. That is 235 miles/gallon.

The car is made of carbon fiber composites and uses one single cylinder 0.33 liter engine. Its teardrop shape has been designed to maximize aerodynamic flow. There are no wing mirrors. Cameras are used instead and enable the driver to see what’s behind.

To keep it as light as possible the car has no paint. The default color is black. The magnesium steering wheel adds just one pound to its total weight.

The One Liter runs on diesel and the tank can hold only 6.5 liters (1.7 gallons). It will travel 650 km (400 miles).

The engine turns off automatically when the car is stopped at lights and restarts when the accelerator is pressed.

The VW One-Liter car will have a top speed of 120 km/h (75 m/h) and will seat two persons. Storage space is minimal, only about 80 liters (2.8 cubic feet).

The car is expected to be on the market around 2010.

With a One Liter car your gas expenses will drop by almost 8 times.
