Next year, or more exactly on 17 February 2009, all TV stations in USA will have to broadcast in digital signals. There will be no more analog transmission.

If you have an old TV you might not be able to watch anything, unless you acquire a digital turner. By that time most people would have bought a new TV, most probably an HD one (High Definition).

What most people do not realize is that they will be able to receive many high definition channels without subscribing to cable or satellite companies. All they have to do is to buy an antenna ($30 to $100) and connect it to their TV.

The images they will receive could be better than from cable or satellite because they are normally digitally uncompressed. But perhaps more importantly they are totally free!

Yes TV antennas may not look pretty but then nor do the satellite dishes.

We recommend going for an external antenna and it can cost between $30 to over $100, depending on the size. One of the best antenna is the Channel Master CM4228.
As for the number of channels you can pick up it will depend on where you live and in what zone you are located if you are in the States. It is not uncommon to pick up over 15 channels.
