QuickGPS Fix for the best navigation
The TomTom GO 720 Driving View screen display has received some (overall) welcomed face lift:
– Buttons are now (slightly) 3D.
– Likewise, the map displays objects in slight 3D, either slightly sunken or raised.
– There is now a Quick menu running along the right side. You can choose up to six of your most commonly used buttons to be used in the Quick menu for easy access without having to leave the Driving View and go into the Main menu. [Excellent use of the wide screen.]
– You can now also display the current street name. [I definitely like that!]
The new MapShare technology holds the promise that mistakes in TeleAtlas maps won’t matter that much anymore since those who care the most (those who live, work and drive in the particular area) will suggest corrections that all can benefit from. This promises to be the “killer app” for TomTom only if it will manage the implementation and execution carefully. Let’s hope this is not another dreamt-up marketing ploy but a serious initiative that TomTom (now owner of TeleAtlas) will wisely capitalize on.
Voice Address Input (speak the address instead of typing it in) is available in Europe but not in the US. [No comprendo — dumb marketing decision — I wonder if a European model GO 720 will work in North America?]
