So the cost would be about the same in worst case scenario. We have also to bear in mind that a deformed bristle from an electric toothbrush head will still perform better than from a manual one purely because of its high pulsation or rotation.
With an electric toothbrush you would use less toothpaste. Because of the size of the head it is not possible to put too much toothpaste. Yet it cleans very well with that little amount. So you would save money in that area too. However we recommend using the best toothpastes since the expense is very little considering it will take quite some time to finish a tube.
But the greatest saving would be in the dentist costs. Less teeth need to be extracted or repaired. Your gum would recede less. Your visit to the dentist would be less frequent. One visit costs more than an electric toothbrush.
So the electric toothbrush is a no brainer. It will save you money and keep your teeth in better health.
Size
Some people are more comfortable with a small toothbrush head. It might be easier to move between the teeth.
It is a personal issue. You might have to try different ones to see which one you like best.
The newest electric toothbrushes tend to be slimmer with smaller toothbrush heads.
Easy Maintenance
Some electric toothbrushes allow liquid to collect inside them. This leads to a smelly and disgusting residue when the head is opened up.
One way to counter is it is to clean the inside of the toothbrush after use and to let the dismantled pieces to dry in open air. This will slow down the building of the slime.

Both are excellent in performance. You cannot go wrong with any of them.
Oral B 9950 is slightly less expensive than Sonicare Flexicare and its SmartGuide wireless display alerts you when you are putting too much pressure on your teeth.
We have to say, we have a preference for the sonic technology. The vibration of the bristles on the teeth is very powerful and different from the rotating-oscillating motion.
Oral-B has also a toothbrush using sonic technology – The Oral-B Pulsonic Sonic Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush
It is quieter than the Sonicare and slimmer in size. Its charger stand is also more stable and can be fixed on a wall.
It has however less features than the Sonicare and changing modes is not so user friendly.
It costs about half the price of a Sonicare Flexicare.
We do not recommend using Sonicare Elite or Essence, even though they use the same technology as Flexicare, because of the slimy gooey substance which forms after a while inside the toothbrush.
The Philips Sonicare Flexicare resolved that issue and is an improvement over former models.
If you do want to buy the Elite or Essence models, then unscrew the head and clean the inside after use to avoid the accumulation of waste matter.
The use of UV sanitizer is optional. If you can afford it, that’s fine.
The most important thing is the effectiveness of the toothbrush.
