Leaked news on the various Internet digital camera forum boards is that Pentax will “officially” announce its newest digital SLR, the K10D, September 13th, with features and price that many photographers will find too tempting to pass up.

- 10.2MP

- CCD Shift Image Stabilization that offers a 2.5 - 4 stop advantage

- Weather-resistant body with 72 seals

- 11-Point AF with AF-assist lamp

- ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600

- Program AE, Aperture-Priority, Shutter-Priority, Shutter & Aperture Priority (instantly switch to SP or AP from P, and back), Manual, X-Sync, Bulb

- Depth of Field Preview

- Shutter Speed from 30-1/4,000 sec., B

- Continuous Shooting @ 3fps until memory card is full (JPEG), 12 frames max (RAW)

- Dust Reduction

- Optional D-BG2 battery grip

The Pentax K10D has all the features that enthusiasts have been asking for — and that the other major digital camera manufacturers have either not been able, or been reticent, to introduce. It remains to be seen how all these features translate into real world use, especially image quality at high ISOs.
