Stung by accusations that its open stantard Four Thirds System has not delivered on its promises of smaller and lighter lenses and digital SLRs, Olympus has announced the world’s smallest and lightest digital SLR, the Olympus EVOLT E-400.
Industry observers — and even Four Thirds System partners Panasonic and Leica — have openly complained that the stringent specifications laid out by the Four Thirds System do not permit building smaller lenses and/or digital cameras.
As if to rebuke partners and critics alike, the Olympus E-400, the latest addition to the E-System, measures only 130 x 91 x 53 mm (5.1 x 3.6 x 2.1 in) and weighs a mere 380g (13.4 oz).
