NEC latest desktops, the POWERMATE P5000 and 5010 broke away from the traditional computer design concept with a sleek design resembling the Apple iMac.

They are currently the NO.1 selling model in Japan and had received the “Japan Good Design Awardâ€.
The NEC POWERMATE P are a hybrid of desktop and laptop, combining the advantages of both.

Weighing only 4 kg they can easily be moved around the house with the help of a flex bar. The keyboard and the joystick mouse are wireless and there are only one power cable.

The 17†widescreen dual lamp LCD with NEC Super Shine View Ex-2 Technology provides clear and crisp pictures.
They both use AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core TL-52 1.6 GHz processor. The difference between P5000 and P5010 is the size of RAM. P5000 has 1 GB DDR2 Memory whereas P5010 has 2GB. Both have 200GB SATA HDD and a slot-loading DVD Super Multi drive.
NEC POWERMATE P5000 and 5010 are definitely computers worth considering, especially if space and mobility are important factors.

They are probably restricted in component upgrades. Only the RAM can be increased up to 4 GB. It will hardly be possible to replace the hard drive or the video graphic card given the nature of the design.
