This is one of the smallest Progressive Scan DVD player (21.6 x 18 x 3.6 cm) and also one of the cheapest on the market.
It plays DVD, VCD, CD, CD-R/RW, MP3, WMA, JPEG and MPEG4. It has Multi-Language On-Screen display and Composite and Component Video Output.
Constructionwise it is not very strong, especially the disc tray, which opens up when press. Nevertheless it will last a long time if it is handled with care.
Because of its small size it can be carried around very easily. It weighs only 670 g.
The remote control is relatively small and can be a bit ackward to use since all the buttons are close to each other. With a little practice this problem can be overcomed.
Inspite of its small size it has all the typical functions of a DVD remote control – Zoom, Slow motion, Frame-by-Frame advance, Subtitle, Angle view etc.
The image quality is good. It would be hard to tell the differences between the image from this player from that of an expensive DVD player.
We burnt video clips from a digital camera onto a DVD-R disc with a Mac and we were pleasantly surprised to see that it played flawslessly.
We previously tested the same disc on another more expensive MPEG4 DVD player and was very disappointed with the result. Although it played the disc the image was full of spots.
The Magasonic DVD6118-4 player did a very good job in recognizing the different formats and playing them very well.
