Boxing Day is almost here, the time almost all Canadians are waiting for.

It’s like Christmas Day when everyone is excited as they rip off the gift wrapping to find out what present is inside.

Some websites have already posted the Boxing Day Flyers in advance so that people can have a peak at the coming deals.

The Boxing Day Trap

Yes Boxing Day is a great day to shop for bargains but it’s also a great day to get ripped off.

Not everything on sale during that day is a bargain.

The retailers will use the “Boxing Day Fever” to get rid of the stuff they cannot sell during the year.

This is their opportunity to clear their old stuff.

On Boxing Day people are too excited. They cannot think properly.

They assume almost everything is a bargain. They just look at the price and do a quick arithmetic.

If it is cheaper than they think it should be, they will grab it regardless if they need it or not.

They rarely consider how good it is.

Their mind is in the fast mode. There is no time for deep analysis because the product might be gone.

Not everyone is like that.

Some of us already went through the flyers and have an idea what we want to buy.

We have more time to check it out and decide if it is worthwhile or not.

And that’s great!

We did some homework and is more prepared for the Boxing Day shopping.

But what we don’t realize is that once we get inside the shop our mind easily turns into panic mode.

If we are successful in getting what we wanted we will then start looking for some other bargains. And that’s when we become vulnerable as we have to make a fast decision.

If we are not able to get what we wanted the situation gets worse.

We are now extremely vulnerable, we cannot accept the fact that we have lined up for so long and have not been able to get anything.

We HAVE to get something.

It’s like going fishing or hunting and not catching anything at the end of the day. We have to bring something back, whatever.

This is where we buy anything, hoping we got a good bargain.

So we need to understand that our rational mind can easily be hijacked by our surrounding and what’s going around us.

If you don’t believe that, consider what you would do if people around you are rushing and grabbing a particular product piled on the floor.

After an initial hesitation trying to find out what’s going on, you will find yourself grabbing one of those products before the pile becomes empty.

Why did you decide to buy that? You have no idea. All you know, it must be good since everyone wants it.

You have thrown out all rationality in your action. The “surrounding-pressure” was just too much.

Even if you know all that, you would probably do it again.

Our reasoning in that situation is that, grab one and if it’s not good, we can still put it back or return it.

The question is, do we really?

So what should we do?
