TOM TOM, GARMIN and other makers of dedicated GPS devices are struggling with falling sales. Nokia and other cell phone makers are encroaching into their territory with GPS-enabled mobile phones.
If your mobile contained easy-to-use GPS capability, would you still be interested in purchasing a dedicated GPS navigation device? It is interesting to note that Garmin has incorporated cell phone technology into its Nuvifone.
Maybe Nokia would have done better purchasing Tom Tom or Garmin than NavTeq. It would then have gained GPS firmware that could have been immediately incorporated into its phones.
