Say, what? OK, so to harness the power of viral marketing, this company-on-a-napkin (Eye-Fi) launches “Eye-Film” and gets bloggers like us to write about it.

But what is It?

Eye-Film Wi-Fi Enabled SD Card

It is an idea: put Wi-Fi capability on a Secure Digital (SD) memory card, et voila: instant Wi-Fi capability on any SD-compatible digital camera — which is about all of them, minus Sony with its proprietary Memory Stick, and Olympus and Fujifilm with their xD-Picture Card. But otherwise everyone else pretty much has standardized on SD Card.

How many people are excited about this “product” still in… tada, its alpha stage of development?

Sigh! Why would anyone buy a SD Card with built-in Wi-Fi? If Wi-Fi ever takes off, then ALL digital cameras would have that technology built-in faster than you can say, duh. And who would then buy your Eye-Film SD cards?

We give Eye-Film an “F” and say, Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum to it.

We also rate its viral marketing effort as the worst we have ever encountered. Any photographer in any forum could have told them it’s a DOA idea.

And, as bloggers, we do not appreciate being taken advantage of. There, you wanted viral marketing, you got it!
