By now, we’ve all seen this video of a cool door made up of slats equipped with sensors at their tips.
As a person (or object) approaches the door, the sensor on a slat finds its beam is interrupted and that slat then slides open until the sensor senses there is no obstruction anymore, and the slat stops at that point in space.
It makes for a cool door that opens just enough to let the person through.
The door is not yet quite ready for commercial use, as the video shows.
However, the uses are numerous: e.g. a pet door that slides open and closes to let your pet in and out. It would, however, need an additional sensor that reads and recognizes the RFID worn around your pet’s neck so it opens for it alone.
