Fear is a powerful marketing tool and a very successful one too. We are often enticed to take action out of fear of losing something dear to us.

Protect your family! Take a life insurance so that if something happens to you your family would not be in financial distress.

You and your children need mobile phones so that you can easily have access for help.

Keep yourself healthy by taking a vitamins supplement daily.

Your house needs protection. Subscribe to a security monitoring plan.

Take this extended warranty and it will cover your purchase for 5 years.

There is nothing wrong with any of these things but then we need to understand what are the chances those negative things happen to us if we do not take any actions.

The answer is very little.

However to have peace of mind we decide to do it. Beside when it happens it would be too late. As a result we forked out hundreds of dollars every year so we have a feeling of security.

Salesmen play on those fear and their arguments sound logic and convincing. Before we fall prey to those stratagems we need to ask ourselves the following questions:

Is there a 50% chance what is feared will happen? If the answer is no then there is really no need for it.

Is there anything else I can do to minimize the problem without having to pay a lot of money for peace of mind? There are often simpler and less costly ways to deal with potential problems. We just need to give some thoughts to them. Remember, going to the root of the problem is often better than dealing with the aftermath.

Don’t buy out of fear.
